Why choose Julie?

When I became a parent in 2000, I no longer wanted to work in the City but have time to be around my two children. This meant a major rethink on life, and I retrained as a NCT Antenatal Teacher, Postnatal counsellor and doula. Supporting new parents since 2009 has been a wonderful journey and having studied psychology it felt natural to retrain as a psychotherapist and support those who suffered with addiction, anxiety, bereavement, depression and relationship challenges. It has been an honour to support new parents and observe the dance between mother, father and baby and this experience provided me with incredible insight into the biological and spiritual development of families, from utero to adulthood.

Link to Local Therapists

I believe in a holistic approach to healing both mental and physical health and in early 2015 I set up a local professional network bringing together 20 holistic practitioners. The aim of this network is to enhance my business knowledge and enable me to signpost clients to an exceptionally high standard of support. These connections are the life blood of my work as Bessel Van Der Kolk states so eloquently ‘The Body Keeps the Score ’. My network 'Link to Local Therapists' meets every 6 weeks to support, connect and learn from each other. Click on the logo to access amazing practitioners in South West London.

Psychotherapist

In 2018, I retrained as a Psychotherapist via CPCAB (Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) and I am now a member of BACP
(British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), an ethical framework body. All members commit to the BACP code of conduct and are insured to practice.

Antenatal Teacher & Postnatal Counsellor

In 2004 I undertook 5 years academic and vocational training with the NCT and obtained two University of Bedfordshire diplomas in antenatal education and postnatal counselling and practiced with the NCT for 10 years, facilitating classes both for the NCT and St Georges Hospital in Tooting. I also trained as a postnatal doula to be able to offer support to new parents in their home.

I specialised in supporting mums through the perinatal period. Feeding their baby from birth to introducing solid food and concerns around attunement with baby. I joined a team of counsellors running Balham Breastfeeding Café in 2010 and was instrumental in switching this support to online during the pandemic. This helpline and zoom support has been a crucial for new mums during an extremely difficult and challenging time for new parents. Although I no longer practice as a doula, my website Baby Intution is still available to access an A-Z of how to feed and adjust to being a new parent.

Clapham Baby Show

When the Link to Local Therapist network began we specialised in supporting new parents and decided to introduce this wonderful group of experts to the public. We launched our first Clapham Baby Show in Autumn 2015 - this show was such a success after two shows we had to move it to a larger venue. In order to meet demand, we added lots of businesses outside of our network. Each show was a ticketed event but with free entry. Exhibitors paid for a stand and we sponsored a local charity via a raffle. Please click on the video below to see how we supported new parents.  We held 5 shows in 3 years but decided to not reopen the doors after the 2020 pandemic. The organisers went onto to new ventures.
